As usual, you pack a lot into your posts! Thank you.
I want to add that Native American Studies for Everyone should be Mandatory for Everyone . I thought I had a basic understanding of US history including Wounded Knee, the Nez Perce War, boarding schools, reclaiming language-- and have eaten so much fry bread, indian Tacos and Salmon at community events! So many issues I thought I grasped were just a windshield view. This class is a dive into our history from the people who lived it thank you for your conversations/ presentations in this course and for promoting it here.
Bring back native American languages as a subject, create a Civil Rights, minor for lawyers, doctors, teachers, to improve perception of current discrimination against neurodiverse genetic populations
Yes!!! I am loving the class. The webinar Chris was a part of was so great to listen to 4 colleagues and friends discussing, sharing, and educating. I could have listened for many more hours. Thank you all!
I always feel too busy for "deep dive" reading when I have the courage to look at my email, but then I read through your words and find these little gems of life and blessedness and goodness. YES to the sacredness of being among a myriad of butterflies. YES to the mild alarm when one feels too pulled in too many directions to sit down and do the most important things. YES to the awesome wonder of whales, and the amazing fact that they continue, despite the craziness that is human reality right now. It suggests a whole different tempo and focus. And YES to just the cover illustration of that book. YES to the words of the Flow review. YES to Mary Oliver and Rumi and to the power of words that connect us to the quick of life. We need them more than ever.
Went to the Butterfly Museum last summer. What a fun place to hang out.
Heard Coleman Barks speak at a behavioral health conference many years ago. He spoke of Rumi’s ability to present a different vision of our experience as we rumble through life. I bought a copy of his (then) recent publication, THE ESSENTIAL RUMI. I refer to it often.
So, rumble on. You are getting done what needs to be done. I would be suspicious if you came to the end of your journey and could claim there was nothing left to be done.
And, to add to the joy, Hockey Night in Canada (an institution here), was recently broadcast on APTN with live game coverage in Inuktitut. So much excitement for this.
Love all that you've shared here, friend. Your presence in the world helps me take a deep breath and remember the calm in the chaos. Thanks for being you.
The moments when I think of the lives of animals in the wild, unseen but there nonetheless, are the moments I feel I too can manage somehow. It is one reason I must always have mountains nearby, places vast and independent of my daily concerns. Proof that life finds a way.
“In the darkness I thought of these magnificent creatures, how they were out there living their incredible lives even as I was mired in my mental struggles.” Repeat ad infinitum. This business of being human = quite a ride. ❤️ 🐳 🌊
I'm so glad you enjoyed Flow as much as I did! I will be watching this one again in the near future, I'm sure. It said so much without saying anything at all. :)

Omgomgomgomg! Montgomery is within driving distance for me!! I can’t believe you’re coming down to the south!!
Unrelated, I am taking your film critique and watching Flow. Very excited to immerse myself in the beauty you described.
I hope you come to the event and I hope you watch Flow!
"an opportunity to see Star Wars as presented in Anishinaabemowin!"
WHAT?!?! F-YES!
I know!
And, to add to the joy, Hockey Night in Canada (an institution here), was recently broadcast on APTN with live game coverage in Inuktitut. So much excitement for this.
This was exactly what I needed to read today— thank you for all of the rec’s!
💚
I just recently went to the Butterfly House
Then went back a few days later
So calming, so beautiful
I love it. There's a lot to that place besides all the butterfly stuff too!
Love all that you've shared here, friend. Your presence in the world helps me take a deep breath and remember the calm in the chaos. Thanks for being you.
❤️❤️❤️
Know that you embraced the verklemptedness, and then paid it forward!
I feel like that's my natural state most days lately.

Proof indeed.
Star wars in Anisihinaabemowin!

I remember taking our kids to see Bambi in Arapahoe at the University theatre on campus (decades ago now). I had no idea such a version was created.
I will look for this release. Awesome!
Did you see the most recent PREDATOR movie in Comanche?

Thanks for ALL of this, Chris: film and book recommendations, the repeat of NASfE, and the new book reading in Missoula. Travel safely and be well.
💚
See you Tuesday I'll bring a friend too!
Say hello!
I'm so glad you enjoyed Flow as much as I did! I will be watching this one again in the near future, I'm sure. It said so much without saying anything at all. :)
I really, really loved it. Thank you for talking about it.
