Go to a reading, watch a film at an independent movie theater, listen to funk at a brewery and tip the guys so they have gas to get home — all acts of defiance against what we’re up against. Saw Kerouac’s Road: the Beat of a Nation yesterday, it was that stunned silence in a theater as the credits roll that you just don’t get on your couch.
Chris, I just want to say I’m very happy Becoming Little Shell is coming out in paperback. I was introduced to you at our local bookstore talk you gave here in Paonia CO. At Paonia Bookstore when the hard back was out. I fully support what you said about supporting local arts. I truly love what we have here and for artists and authors like yourself and what you do for our small rural communities. I’m a die hard supporter of you and what you create . Thank you very much.
Boise and the Treasure Valley have a pretty robust community of book lovers, invigorated by The Cabin, a literary arts nonprofit that hosts out of town authors, as well as supporting local writers, and holding workshops, seminars, and youth writing camps. Plus we love our local Rediscovered Books.
BTW, I appreciate that you introduced me to Libro for audible books, which I'm hopelessly addicted to. Now I can buy downloads that support RBs, instead of feeding the elephant. I also liberally use the Library's Libby app, but their audible selection is pretty puny.
Thank you Chris for the notice of the Public Art Celebration on Tuesday August 12 4 p.m. in Bozeman at Creekside Park corner of E Lamme St. and N Rouse Ave. All are welcome ! Food and beverages provided / Chris will speak !
Mahalo for this! It hurts to have only four people in the audience, two of which you brought with you! Were I closer than hundreds of miles away (Four Corners), I'd go! Meanwhile, we will order copies of the softcover edition for our tiny bookstore.
It's in Dolores, CO. Mama Bear's Bakery & Books. Really it has a small selection of books--my son and his wife run the bakery and a rock shop there, we sell our grass-fed-and-finished beef there, and I help with the book buying :-).
Congratulations on making it to the paperback of BLS, Chris! Your book has been selling well at Prairie Lights. :) I appreciate your shout-out to indie bookstores, too--it is indeed getting harder to host events. (We only have 3 at PL this month, though it is kinda the calm before the storm that will be the start of the fall semester). Hope you get to keep doing what you love for as long as you like! Your writing career has been a big inspiration to me.
Jenny, I appreciate the kind words very much. I hope you're loving being at Prairie Lights. I had a nice chat about your store with Carrie Lowry Schuettpelz at IPFEST. 💚
Good Morning Chris, I have been very moved by BLS. Your story has brought me to tears several times. The longing for community is so real. As a biologist I often overlooked the needs of people and in my past work I had the privilege to work with several Pueblos here in NM. We would discuss endangered animal and plant species with regards to restoring their lands. One elder brought up during one of those meetings "What about us? We are an endangered species." This statement sticks with me and I share with the people in my community. I am so happy for you and Little Shell and Turtle Mountain Chippewa people. Thank you for sharing LaFountain's prayer and your story. I will keep it with me as I move through this world. With love and peace Patty
Congrats on the paperback release!
Miigwech!
Thanks for your reminder to show up at events when you can to show support ... I don't live there but I will make it a point to do it locally.
💚

Kerouac's Road sounds interesting!

Congratulations in the paper back release
Well deserved!
I appreciate that!

Miigwech, Jay. I really enjoyed my visit to Paonia and hope to again in the future!

I love Libro. And I'm looking forward to my visit to Rediscovered Books on September 6th!
Me too. It's on my calendar.
Original book release party and tour, and now a paperback book release party. So much happiness for you, Chris!!
I don't know how much of a "party" this will be but I'm hoping it will be fun.

Thanks for the update, Jim!
