Boozhoo, indinawemaaganidog! Aaniin! That is to say hello, all of my relatives! This is kind of a “quick check in” edition of An Irritable Métis, mostly to bring Montana locals some last minute opportunities to come and visit me on the road, starting today, as a matter of face!
It’s never too late to get in on a paid subscription to help keep this show on the road. I’m very grateful!
Butte, This Evening!
I know it’s short notice; I didn’t realize until recently that this was a public event so that’s why the notice is so short1. I haven’t done an event in Butte in a long time so I’d love to see some of you!
BOOK LAUNCH PARTY: This Place the Gods Touched Earth
Wednesday, November 20, 2024
6:00 pm (show) open to the public (FREE)
In the Jailhouse Gallery at The Myrna Loy
I’m really excited about this one! Here are more details:
Come celebrate the release of This Place the Gods Touched Earth, the first anthology of work from the eleven extraordinary Montana poets laureate since 2005.
This Place the Gods Touched Earth is a snapshot of two decades of observation, wordcraft, and art by some of the Big Sky’s greatest living poets. The book also contains poets’ biographies and essays, an introduction by current Poet Laureate Chris La Tray, and a preface by former Myrna Loy Director Krys Holmes. It is published collaboratively by the Montana Arts Council and Montana Historical Society Press.
The event will feature short readings from laureates Chris La Tray, Mark Gibbons, Sheryl Noethe, and Michael Earl Craig. Plus refreshments! Come buy a book, get it signed, and enjoy a few moments together in The Myrna Loy’s vibrant visual arts space. We’ll see you here!
This book is a beautiful collection and I’m very grateful to be part of it. You can order it HERE if you are so inclined! I’m excited for this event. It’s in one of the smaller rooms at the Myrna Loy and I’d sure like to make them regret the decision to “go small.”
Come out and bury us in attendees, Helena people!

Saturday, November 23rd.
Come enjoy Chris reading from his new book Becoming Little Shell.
Doors at 6:30, Show at 7pm.
Suggested donation $20.
902 West Main Street, WSS.
I do private events and things in schools and stuff that I don’t publicize … like a book club thing I’m doing in Bozeman tomorrow morning.
Kicking ass and taking names! I love it! Hope to see you next time you are in Billings! And, if you go rafting again I want to go!!! haha
All the best to you, Chris, as you accumulate windshield miles as Becoming Little Shell author, and, Poet Laureate.
(I lived and worked in White Sulphur Springs after moving from the Blackfeet Reservation. Lovely little town with historical buildings, especially the library, which is where I learned about Alaska before moving here in 1987.)
See ya 'round the next corner!!
