I wouldn't even stand up for the pledge in high school when I was still (mostly) a fundamentalist Christian. Allegiance to a flag? Hell no.
Not that I would have put it exactly that way just yet.
I suppose I could have floated a false idols argument back then, but I came to my senses by senior year and realized I was surrounded by those everywhere. Later on it would become clear that the church I was breaking out of was contained in a bigger church, and so on, and so on, and so on.
Occasionally they hold something worth keeping--while walking out yet another set of doors.
