Happy Birthday! Yesterday I noticed on my walk through our island forest that the alder suddenly went from swollen buds to that incomparable spring green, joining the snowberry and the Indian plum. Still soaked by winter rains, the licorice fern are continuing to creep up the moss covered trunks and branches of the big leave maples. Another trip around the sun means I get to be here for this cycle of growth and retreat and being able to walk through it is, well, the quietest joyful part of any day for me.
