Yes, the Cincinnati airport being in Kentucky seems so wrong. The history of is that the first Cincinnati airport was built in Ohio. But it was placed in the floodplain of two mighty rivers, and was prone to both flooding and heavy valley fog. Kentucky had unincorporated land just across the border and lobbied Congress to build a new airfield there. It happened in time to be of service in WWII, and since the Cincinnati area was becoming too heavily populated to build an airport there, its fate was sealed. The airport nomenclature is CVG because the location is closest to Covington, Kentucky. I think that in the end it stayed named as Cincinnati out of name recognition for the largest and maybe best widely recognized city in the area. Part of me really likes the idea of the rivers telling men they were wrong, and to get out of nature’s way. ;)
