I love these sentenced glimpses of your month. "welcome home" also burst my heart open, in reading. The USA customs officer who inspected my luggage upon re-entry, after three years away from this country, said the same thing to me. "Welcome home." I felt a similar expansion. A reddening of the face and spirit.
What a treat to wake up to on a damp Sunday morning. Every sentence says something to me but in the wake of the way things are I'm still holding onto one from April: 2024_0421: For all the daily bullshit there is plenty evidence of decent people in the world almost everywhere you look.
It's my favorite roadside motel! I have a couple nights booked there already come Métis Festival later this summer, though I realize I can't remember now what nights I booked. 😂
Love and tears. The park ranger working the northeast entrance looks at my tribal ID and says, “Welcome to Yellowstone….” then hands it back and says, “… and welcome home,” and my heart near bursts from my chest.
Mmm, what a rich month you've had, based on the density of these sentences. Many of these resonate (including the plane - blech - and Yellowstone - so glad more people are finally getting it).
Some from my log, as thanks for sharing yours:
5.3 - I love when I switch my meetings to be virtual, only for the internet to switch itself off at its leisure.
5.5 - When the old conflict shows itself with a new look, I know I'll never run out of work to do.
5.6 - Amazing how a ritual that was once second nature now feels terrifyingly unfamiliar.
5.8 - Sometimes it's a relief to go through the day relatively unexcited about much at all.
5.10 - When the wind blows just right, a dozen ghost ships sail across the horizon, and I get caught up in squinting to see what those lives would be like.
5.13 - I have simply planned too much to plan any more today.
5.16 - It's normal to notice the ghost ships in the distance; and it's also OK to let them sink.
5.17 - With the wing-flourish of the sun-fire bird, all is worth the patience.
5.19 - I guess somehow I ordered a smoothie of emotions for today's sustenance.
5.22 - When the analog world calls with love, put down the digital world and listen.
5.23 - It feels good to hear an expert say, "your hunch is probably correct."
5.24 - All the things come together on one day to culminate in a much-needed cry and a well-deserved dance party.
5.25 - Somehow my body knows how good it is to dig around in dirt.
5.28 - Though excessive in most times, a night with 10 hours of sleep feels like a miracle cure.
5.29 - I am, as ever, grateful to sing en masse, even if it's made up on the spot.
5.31 - Changes can be worthwhile and simultaneously terrifying.
Credit to Cheryl Strayed/Dear Sugar for that analogy. I'm a little young for when the iconic column came out, but it seems to hold up to the test of time, and for that I am grateful.
Your May 19... that new stretch of highway... triggered Route 12 in Utah... "Shock Corridor... I just got a tattoo too! So I know exactly what you mean about the clean lines blurring under the wrapping. Yours is stunning and so powerful but holy bejezus 9 hours? I hope & believe your ancestors heard and are proud.
I got a flower dragon that I've wanted to get for years. Once, during a time of great stress, I saw a dragon tearing through the sky with its claws. In that moment, the world looked like a set to me, like it was painted on paper, easy to lose in a minute -- which of course is true. I've thought a lot about that moment, and I think I was the dragon. I had to destroy that world to change the way I was living. Anyway, the closest dragon I've ever seen to my dragon is made by a female Korean artist, and she didn't seem very interested in traveling so I kind of gave up on the idea of getting it unless I somehow traveled to Seoul sometime, but then she announced she was coming to NY for a working visit! Even though it was thoroughly impractical -- I'm spending so much money on this condo -- I had to take my chance and get my dragon.

Amazing what a few simple words from a stranger, delivered in unanticipated kindness, can mean to us, isn't it?

That's one good to be reminded of; I need the constant reminder myself.
2024_0518: This is the one for me that makes my heart happy to know you and read you, Chris. "Welcome home."

the shimmering of cottonwood trees touched by wind. if it's not miraculous, it is, closely observed, close enough.

Thanks for the B&B Motel shoutout - so glad you have found a bit of relaxation there!!

Beautiful work!!!

Definitely think the beaded gig vest would be an awesome investment. 🤩
It so would be!
I love this vest idea!
The comment on 5/18 made me know how important it is for all of us to belong.
5/26 - Great idea. I want a vest too.
5/27 - your humanity at its best.
😂

These are beautiful, Lucy. Ghost ships! I love that you shared them here. 💚

Now I don’t even know what you’re talking about. 😂
Ack, my bad! Here's the original "ghost ships" column: https://therumpus.net/2011/04/21/dear-sugar-the-rumpus-advice-column-71-the-ghost-ship-that-didnt-carry-us/

Utah is a great place for driving too.
"...and welcome home," brings one more set of eyes dampened.
The beaded vest! 😍
I've found someone to do the beading, I just need the right vest!
Yes...'welcome home!' Made me a bit teary. And your sentence for 5/25 is a poem in itself. Beautiful and poignant.
Miigwech!
Oh,definitely 05/18/2024.
05/23/2024 ~A lovely view .
05:32/2024 ~The simplicity of beauty , there is no place like home.
Thanks for reading!

I'm curious to know what you got!

An excellent decision.
Thanks! ☺️
